Photo: DCBIB<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The German-Danish border region has changed fundamentally over the past 100 years: from a disputed strip of land between two unequal neighbors to a model region for national minorities and peaceful coexistence. The border, established by referenda in 1920, remained controversial for a long time, both among the national minorities and among the respective majority populations.<br><br>The Summer University will examine the background and current challenges of the neighborhood in the north. 1945, the \u201czero hour\u201d of German-Danish relations, marks the starting point of the seminar. Within the framework of NATO and European cooperation, a trusting relationship has developed between the two countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Summer University &#8217;25 also focuses on the situation of the minorities living in the German-Danish border region, who were politically and socially disadvantaged in the interwar period, but today have a special function as European bridge-builders.<br><br>The process of reconciliation between Denmark and Germany is discussed using the example of the German-Danish border region. Photo: Jon Thulstrup<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">An intercultural place of learning<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The summer school will examine different national narratives, visit regional memorials, and discuss the importance of national minorities to contemporary society. Participants:will work in small groups to create various podcasts to understand and communicate both the specific stories and their uses. This opens up a new perspective on the history and present in the German-Danish border region for students and lecturers alike. The Summer University thus represents an innovative place of study and encounter that consciously promotes professional, interdisciplinary and intercultural exchange.
